ESG: Powering a Sustainable Future
A New Standard in Sustainable Mining
At Hawsons Iron, sustainability is not just a goal—it’s the core of our operations. Through pioneering dry-processing technology, we’re setting new environmental benchmarks, significantly reducing impacts, and leading the industry toward a greener future.
As part of the Project’s current activities, the company is focusing on the impact on the natural environment, including issues like climate change, resource usage, pollution, and waste management.
- Chemical-Free Processing
Completely eliminates the need for flotation agents or chemical additives, significantly reducing environmental risks.
- Zero Tailings Dams
Our innovative dry-processing method eliminates traditional tailings dams, preventing associated environmental hazards by using a method of co-disposing processing waste with mine waste
- Water-Efficient Mining
Our technology dramatically reduces water consumption compared to conventional mining, addressing critical water-scarcity challenges. Major water usage is planned to be limited to dust suppression at the Project.
- Renewable Energy Integration
Our energy needs are planned to be predominantly met through renewable grid power, further reducing our environmental impact.
Hawsons Iron is deeply committed to ESG excellence, aligning our operations with global best practices to power the transition to a sustainable, decarbonised economy.
- Community Collaboration
Actively engaging with the Broken Hill community, supporting local employment, and investing in community infrastructure.
- Indigenous Engagement
Strong partnerships with the Broken Hill Local Aboriginal Land Council to provide employment opportunities, cultural respect, and meaningful community involvement.
- Long-Term Local Benefits
Our project is expected to generate around 1000 construction jobs and 400+ operational jobs, significantly boosting local economies and delivering lasting regional benefits.
- Government Partnerships
Regular engagement and strong support from local councils, the NSW State Government, and the Australian Federal Government.
Ethical Leadership and Transparent Operations
Hawsons is committed to the development and execution of systems and structures that guide the Company’s operations and decision-making processes, including board composition, executive compensation, shareholder rights, transparency, and risk management.
- Robust Corporate Governance
Continual review and application of policies that ensure fairness, accountability, and compliance with best-practice standards.
- Transparent Stakeholder Communication
Ensuring clear, consistent, and transparent two-way engagement with shareholders, stakeholders, and community groups while respecting their rights and views.
- Safety and Risk Management
Prioritising Health, Safety, Environment, and Community (HSE&C) performance with zero Lost Time Incidents, supported by rigorous project risk reviews and management practices.
- Effective & Efficient Management
Ensuring the composition of the Board and Management reflect at all times, the necessary skills, knowledge and experience necessary to develop and ultimately operate the Hawsons Project in the best interest of all stakeholders.
